This impressive show is the follow up to this successful Sydonia show in Melbourne last year which Dreadnaught unfortunately couldn’t play but that has been rectified this year with both metal headlining a monster band line- up!

This year will be bigger and better and best of all it is in Adelaide and is guaranteed to rock ya socks off so get on this early as tickets will sell fast. All patrons who pre-order will be eligible for a half price CD from the band of their choice, who can say no to that!!!!

Sydonia (VIC)
It is a challenge to define Sydonia, it is far easier to let those who have listened to their debut album GIVEN TO DESTROYERS and or have seen them perform, paint the picture:

“Sydonia is a band that exemplifies the word ‘diverse’. The best of pop sensibilities is tempered at times with brutal angst. ‘No Woman’s Land’ is a song that should be playing on every radio station in every city on this planet!”
— D. Randall Blythe – Lamb of God

“Sydonia, they’re a really amazing band, and the lead singers got a very unique voice Theyre really heavy but incorporate so many different vibes that its a little bit hard to categorize them musically. I think, too, thats something music’s sort of lost”.
Jim Root – SlipknotStone Sour

Dreadnaught (VIC)
As one of Australia’s longest running and diverse groups Dreadnaught has established themselves as a cornerstone of Australian heavy rock. The might of Dreadnaught has seen sub-genres, bands & an entire generation come & go & still they are foremost in Australian rock giving us diverse offerings that are strongly rooted in the brand of Aussie rock & metal that they have become such a huge a part of. Currently writing new material for an LP to be recorded later this year, the current live set contains songs that span Dreadnaughts entire history. A history that has seen the band release 4 LPs & 2 EPs, tour Australia countless times, Japan in 2009, and support Testament, SYL, Cathedral, & Paradise Lost.

SE BON KI RA (SA)
www.sebonkira.com

SE BON KI RA take no prisoners. In their brief yet brutal history the band has carved a solid groove through the Australian metal scene smashing some killer shows alongside some of the best our land has to offer including Dreadnaught, Alchemist, Segression, Psycroptic, Double Dragon, Alarum, Lord and Truth Corroded.

The band’s debut EP One Thousand Ways To Be has been described as a “five shot knockout of groove laden metal that will pound your ears into submission.” Stepping things up towards recording an album these lads will be hitting the stage hard unleashing some new material in trademark no bullshit fashion. Killer riffs, heavy beats and hard hitting lyrics delivered with an undeniable passion.

If you like your metal in the vein of Lamb of God, Pantera, Machine Head and Megadeth, buy a ticket, grab a drink, get down the front, and don’t hold back!

Check out sebonkira on facebook for all social media chatter and updates

FIVE BAND LINE UP ALSO INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING VERY SPECIAL GUESTS:

Zelorage (SA)
www.reverbnation.com/zelorage

In the midst of finalising song writing for the new album we’ve started making arrangements for getting this heavy thing down on disc. We want to make sure that we’re ready to roll with recording, mixing, pressing and release as soon as the songs are finished.

Which brings us to some awesome metal news that we’re simply busting to share… We’ll be working with UK’s Grindstone Studios (Cradle Of Filth, Sylosis) to shape the new material!

A while back we got hold of UK band Sylosis’s album Edge of the Earth, which is fucking brutal. The song writing and performance are intense. What also stood out to us though is the incredibly clean recording quality. With an eye out for who was doing what in the world of metal mixing and recording, we were driven to get in touch with whoever had been at the helm of desk for that amazing piece of work. This lead us to get in touch with Grindstone owner/engineer Scott Atkins for a chat about our project. As we said to him, recording and mixing metal is a fine art and he has created an unbelievably clean canvas for Sylosis to paint on. It wasn’t until after discussing things with Scott that we realised Cradle of Filth have also recorded their last two albums at Grindstone! Scott informed us that he will be doing their upcoming 2012 album too…

We’re stoked to say that we’ve struck a deal with Scott to fit the mixing of our album in between the Cradle of Filth job and UK thrash titans Divine Chaos who are recording their debut with him later in the year. We reckon Edge of the Earth is as clean-as-a-whistle and heavy-as-a-steam-train, so we couldn’t be happier with having Scott involved in our project. Check out a couple of photos of Grindstone’s homey set up.

We’ll be recording over here in SA to Scott’s specifications and sending sample tracks back and forwards to make sure the sound capture gives him what he needs to pull an almighty mix out of it all. Between emails, international postage and Skype I’m pretty sure we’ll feel like we’re spending a bit of time in UK mode over the next few months. We’ve been really impressed with Scott’s professionalism in negotiating this arrangement and his upfront nature in telling us what he will need in order to create the product we envisage. We hope he knows we’re good for our end of the deal \m/

We are excited to be working with Scott and Grindstone to present our new material in killer fashion. Due for a late 2012 release the album promises to be a fitting follow up to our debut EP One Thousand Ways To Be!. If you haven’t got a copy of that yet, grab one from our on-line store, give it a spin nice and loud and let us know what you reckon so that we can consider your feedback as we finalise the new tracks for the album.

Cheers
SE BON KI RA

Dark thrash combined with the urgent feel of death metal, tried by many but accomplished competently by few, Truth Corroded nail it with such passion and desperation, it is truly inspiring…Without a doubt the best metal recording I’ve heard, from ANYWHERE, in quite a while.

SE BON KI RA – http://www.reverbnation.com/sebonkira
SE BON KI RA produces honest, hard hitting, pure Australian metal that challenges, questions and invokes response. With a ‘heart on their sleeve’ style and a raw energy that cuts through the often over processed sound of modern music, SE BON KI RA brings a fresh insight to the heavy metal genre.

INFILTRAITOR – http://www.reverbnation.com/infiltraitor
6 piece melodic death metal band from Adelaide, South Australia formed in 2008. INFILTRAITOR have gained a reputation for being a an extremely tight and polished live band. Drawing influences from various sub-genres of metal, the band’s sound is driven by precise dual guitar work and melodic keyboard lines over pounding technical drums, a rumbling low end and vocals that range from harsh death metal growls to clean harmonized singing.

HUMONIC – http://www.reverbnation.com/humonic
Born and raised under a sun that burns hotter than hell, Australia’s Humonic proves that blistering conditions breed extreme metal. Since Humonic solidified its line up in early 2009, their underground four-track demo and brutal music video have grabbed the attention of Aussie metal heads. Humonic is a band that was built for live audiences and their stage show delivers an interactive experience.

ARCADIA – http://www.reverbnation.com/arcadiametal
Arcadia’s musical style is a mash-up of aggressive hard rock riffs, soaring guitar solos and bone crushing hardcore breakdowns. With a mix of both dirty screaming and clean melodic vocals, Arcadia creates its distinct Metalcore sound, a sound that draws from all four band members broad musical tastes and influences.

EYE OF THE ENEMY – http://www.reverbnation.com/eyeoftheenemy
Eye of the Enemy has grown from strength to strength from supporting some of the world’s biggest bands. A few standouts where the main Melbourne support for Cradle of Filth, the main Australian tour support to Amon Amarth, and playing on the annual Screamfest Downunder festival with such metal heavyweights such as Cynic, Dark Funeral, Destroyer 666, Malevolent Creation, Edguy, Ensiferum, Rotting Christ, Sonata Arctica and Spawn of Possession.

SYNTHETIC BREED – http://www.reverbnation.com/syntheticbreed
PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE, the pioneering Australian cyber-metal outfit’s second full length studio release, is a masterpiece in its entirety. Where its predecessor CATATONIC alluded to new sounds, grooves and rhythms, this new beast wholly overshadows the previous work. Each song is a revelation in itself, every song a mind numbing experience on the senses leaving no doubt that this band has finally achieved a musical zenith hitherto unattained. Psychotic blasts of biomechanical fury, pulsating polyrhythms and annihilating metronomic precision are the signature sounds of Australian based Metal band, Synthetic Breed.

DOWN ROYALE – http://www.reverbnation.com/downroyale
Down Royale are a 5 piece metal band from Brisbane, Australia. The band has moved forward amazingly quickly throughout the year and played numerous shows with some well respected Australian metal bands. At the end of 2009 the band decided to put live performances on hold and focus on writing new material for their debut Ep “PROVING GROUND” scheduled to be released in early 2011.

THIS SIDE OF THE MASSACRE – http://www.facebook.com/tsotm
Back now in 2011, for probably no more than half a dozen shows, TSOTM is looking to do what they do best one last time: play their obscure, poorly received music in front of few people to little or no response. And they wouldn’t have it any other way.

CHAOS BURNING – http://www.reverbnation.com/chaosburningmetal
5 Piece metal outfit from Central Adelaide, Early 2010 seen the birth of its Historic line up, They are a force to be Reckoned with. With The mix of Insane Gutteral Vocals & clean Vocals, hard heavy & solid Guitar Riffs, Killer Drums & awesome Bass Riffs Chaos Burning is a band to look out for & not to be missed.

EXERTHUR – http://www.reverbnation.com/Exerthur
A new breed of heavy metal has been formed, mid 2010 guitarist Mark Burgess and Karl Drabsch after years of playing guitar together found other talented musicians Brendan Buss and Santhosh Jayasundera. This prove to be an instant chemical reaction which together formed the heaviest form of metal that there is to date, fast riffs, with absolute insane headbanging riffs Exerthur will not disapoint!

SEVER HILL – http://www.reverbnation.com/severhill
Sever Hill came about in mid 2009, when two bored guitarists (Patrick Malone, Brad Cannons) and Vocalist (Damian Sellar) wanted to form a band. soon after they recruited the Bass player (Jack Larkin) and Drums (Mitchel George). they had a slow start through out the rest of 2009 until they all became tighter as a band, and started churning out songs one by one. by October, 2010, Sever Hill had 7 originals, 4 of which were used and in the studio to record their debut self titled EP. two months later they played their first gig together. and they annihilated.

SIRIUS – http://www.facebook.com/siriusmetal
We are a 5 piece Adelaide Progressive, Melodic Metal Band that are based in the northern suburbs and we all inspire one another to constantly evolve as musicians to produce what ‘Sirius’ musically stands for.

Segression – Never Dead Australian Tour – with Truth Corroded and Contrive @ Fowlers Live

Captains log star date May 14th 2011. The 5th of the 5th 2000 was a long time ago, but we’re all still here. And it’s a good thing too, otherwise we would have missed seeing Segression tear up the Fowlers stage for a solid hour-and-something set on Saturday night pumping our some of their crowd pleasing classics such as the afore-mentioned dooms day harbinger and the newly released single Hero Anthem from their latest album.

SE BON KI RA had the unmixed pleasure of opening this show. We were a little worried that the early start time of around 7pm on a cold cusp of winter night would mean that we would be thrashing it out to an almost empty room. Courtesy of the metal love we have come to be able to expect from our beloved Adelaide hometown metal heads, most of the crowd that would assemble for the evening was there by the time we kicked off.

Having not opened a show for a while we decided that it would be an all guns blazing assault from the get go. With a small investment in hiring a wireless microphone for Chad so he could maraud about like a man possessed, untethered by the restriction of a sonic umbilical, we reported for duty back stage. Roger (the friendly Fowlers sound guy) hit play on our newly edited intro track which was by now belting through the PA signalling the commencement of the battle (add extra cheese to personal taste). The response was great with everyone making their way in from the bar area to catch the first few notes of our set. We were standing back stage getting ready to go on as the track played out and Jason from Truth Corroded who was back there with us made the sage observation that it was like watching Metallica go on. If there is one thing I can say about the Truth Corroded front man it is that he is incredibly insightful and accurate in his social commentary… That and he’s one of the few proudly old school vocalists still relevant and still hitting it just as hard today as 15-20 years ago when all of us members of the pre-historic Adelaide metal foundation left the garage!

SE BON KI RA at Fowlers Live

So on we went in a self induced mist of Metallica dream haze, Chad said a few quick words to fire things up a bit and the thrashing began. Actually it was a bit more of a thumping than a thrashing for our first track Caught in the Crossfire. This one will definitely be making an appearance on our upcoming full length album along with another few newies and some of our older favourites that didn’t make it onto the EP. The rest of the set was filled out by our Drop C tuned songs that were House of Cards, One Thousand Ways To Be and Shades of Hate. Then followed by a guitar swap for a couple of standard tuning tracks off the EP in Lesser Than and Chasing the Vulnerable.

Worthy of note was Shane’s brand new uber-pointy and ultra metal guitar – a very sexy DBZ Bird of Prey - that he had purchased only hours before the show. There will definitely be less invasions of his personal space on stage now that he can defend himself with such a dangerous weapon… but what can I say, we’re risk takers!

Chad made the most of being cord free for the night and went ape shit jumping off the high Fowlers stage and hitting the floor below like a cortisone injected teenager who has a fresh batch of cartilage in his knees just begging to be abused. He seemed to enjoy himself anyway having a mosh with mates between spitting out a line or two here and there.

So we were pretty happy with a decent performance (sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re great, sometimes they’re shite, but they’re always fun!). We went out into the trenches that night to do our job of opening the show, setting the rules of engagement and getting the party started. We left the battlefield weary and sore yet with a sense of accomplishment that we shall take to our graves. (Too much cheese? Fuck you guys are fussy eaters!)

Contrive

Contrive from Melbourne are touring with Segression on the Never Dead tour. Featuring on drums Andrew Haug from Australia’s premier triple j radio metal show The Racket, these boys offered a tasty morsel of melody infused thrash for our consumption. They sure make a lot of noise for a three-piece band with Andrew’s brother Paul looking after guitar and vocal duties simultaneously like. Always a refreshing flavour in a metal line up, the mood was thick in the venue while these guys did their thing.

Truth Corroded, Adelaide’s beloved “Truthies”. What can I say…. They’re back! After any band goes through the magnitude of line up change that these guys have been through recently (three fifths of the band) there is going to be a bit of down time while things get re-affirmed and tighten up. It seems that their recent Asian tour has created this solidarity amongst the new team because their set left blisters in my ears! In other news, original TC member Mark was seen lurking on the sidelines grinning with approval (or something), fuelling debate about whether he will soon be rejoining the thrash kings…

Truth Corroded

Segression came out meaning business and kept it up right throughout their generous set. Vocalist Chris regular interacted with the audience making for a more personal performance. Playing both newer tunes and classics the lads ran amok on stage adding an extra entertaining edge by using the whole stage space, spitting water at each other, whilst jumping, thrashing and smashing their way through a very tight display of old school metal. There’s a reason why these guys have been going for so long.

We’d just like to say a big cheers to Segression for including us in their aptly named Never Dead come back tour, promoters Welkin Entertainment, local promoters Truth Inc, and the other bands Truth Corroded and Contrive for a good night of metal, with many more to come. Here’s to Aussie metal bands putting in the dollars and the blood and sweat (no tears – metal bands don’t cry) to tour this barren land of cities too far apart so that we all get a variety of foods on our dinner plate.

Cheers also goes to the guests who bought items of our merch on the night. We hope you enjoy the EP, hoodies and tshirts. Every cent that we get back from selling those at the moment goes towards us being able to afford to record and release our next album. That is something we really want to do so thanks for helping us get there.

If you weren’t at the show or didn’t end up grabbing anything or even if you did, check our shop over here to help us build the kitty for our new album. This whole metal making thing is expensive!

Cheers

Fasterlouder.com speaks candidly to SE BON KI RA metal guitarist Mike Brown just before they made their debut at the Adelaide Big Day Out in 2010. Mike Brown goes in to detail about the experience both past and present.

When asked by Fasterlouder.com “What’s the best part of being a band playing the SA leg of the Big Day Out?” Mike response with;

“Because there’s not much metal on the bill, most of our usual local crowd didn’t buy tickets and some of them are spewing now! For us though it means that we get to play live to a new crowd that probably haven’t seen us before and may choose to come out and see us doing local shows in the future. That is awesome exposure that we wouldn’t be able to achieve in any other way.

It’s so cool to be able to just cruise on down to the showgrounds where you remember as a kid dropping your fairy floss off the chair lift and dodging the vomit on the Gravitron, to play amidst a line up of international quality bands. You know what I mean? This place is our backyard and now we get to own a small patch of it for 45 minutes and kick some arse! That’s an awesome thing for a hometown band.

The other thing for us as a local band is what else may result from being on the bill, like offers of support spots when internationals play in town, etc. It’s great exposure for the SE BON KI RA brand and we’re not going to be shy about using it. Hopefully we can share it around a bit too. There’s plenty of good quality Adelaide metal talent out there. We want to promote the scene and inspire the metal heads who only come out of the woodwork for international shows to get out on a regular basis and support local artists who are often entertaining crowds at their own expense.

Come to local shows, pay your entry fee, which is usually less than the price of two drinks, and have a blast with good people and good local talent. So many bands are under-rated just because they “belong” to us. Sometimes it seems like if they came from somewhere else, we would appreciate them more. Anyway end rant here, I just love the richness of our scene and want to see it as proudly and highly regarded as it should be!”

SE BON KI RA BIOGRAPHY

SE BON KI RA [seh-bon-kih-ruh] is an old Haitian proverb that means “Good is rare”. It is traditionally used as a blessing when signing off in communications. We think of it as a reminder of the preciously unique nature of our human experiences and interactions and as a timely warning against complacency.

“It doesn’t take much of a look to find the good in SE BON KI RA.” - Rip It Up

Following on from a massive 2010 with a 6pm time slot at the Adelaide Big Day Out and an east coast trans Tasman tour with Australian metal contemporaries Dreadnaught, SE BON KI RA is working towards an abundance of metal goodness. Plans for a full length studio recording are underway that will provide an opportunity to record some current band favourites along with their brutal new material. This is an exciting time for the SE BON KI RA clan.

“SE BON KI RA are one of the more outstanding artists in South Australia at the moment… An amazing, intense almost brutal live show is one of the better ones I’ve seen in a long time.” – Sacha Sewell, Big Day Out organiser

SE BON KI RA live shows are an intense combination of energetic passion and fun. We believe that heavy metal can be powerful and carry meaning without being based on the negativity often stereotypically associated with the genre. We are performers and we take pride in bringing honesty to our craft. There’s no unnecessary gloss or polish here, but there is lots of sweat and the occasional drop of blood. Built on this primal foundation is a sense of sophistication and spiritual maturity, which is added to our song writing by previous involvement in a range of musical projects over a number of years. Members of SE BON KI RA have played in bands influential in the thriving Adelaide metal scene, including Truth Corroded, Sector III, Obdurate Seduction, Chakkra and Hammad. This rich history gives the band a good platform for creativity, enabling us to carve our sound with plenty of experiences to respectfully call on for inspiration. We call our style ‘groove metal’, but with a wealth of local and international influences, SE BON KI RA offers a tasty morsel for a wide range of consumers of the hard and the heavy.

“SE BON KI RA play an easily accessible style of heavy metal, simply described with a comparison with US band Lamb of God. Hard guitars and tough guy vocals laid over an infectious groove and downbeat” - Faster Louder

Since the band’s first gig in November 2007, SE BON KI RA has been blessed with enthusiastic crowd responses, enjoying communion with metal lovers wherever we play. In 2009 we launched our debut EP “One Thousand Ways To Be” to 350 people at a killer show in Adelaide. A highlight of this experience was achieving national air play of the title track when host of Triple J metal show, The Racket, Andrew Haug lifted it from the Unearthed website as his track of the week. One Thousand Ways To Be has gone on to be played further on The Racket, Melbourne metal radio and Adelaide community station Three D radio, where it reached number one on the Powersurge metal chart.

“…experience shines through on ‘One Thousand Ways To Be’, as this is a mature and very cohesive release… a really impressive debut.” - dB “…by far the best Adelaide metal release I have heard in quite some time” - Music SA.

SE BON KI RA has been privileged to share stages with Aussie thrash and metal legends like Mortal Sin, Alchemist, Double Dragon, Dreadnaught, Blood Duster, Psycroptic, The Amenta, Dyscord, Truth Corroded and Universum. Along with being on the Big Day Out line up in Adelaide 2010, another highlight for SE BON KI RA was picking up the main support spot for USA industrial metal merchants Static X at the Adelaide capacity show of their 2009 Australian tour.

“SE BON KI RA already has a well established fan base in their home town, clearly visible from the large (S) logo on the shirts of a dozen or so attendees” - Faster Louder of Against The Grain IV

In commencing their assault on the broader Australian metal market, SE BON KI RA was proud to join Melbourne metal legends Dreadnaught for the Live Oblivion tour to round out a huge 2010. Taking in a Sydney show with Lord for their launch of the Tyrant’s Return and gigs in Katoomba, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Adelaide, the tour was full of memorable moments for SE BON KI RA taking their tunes on the road, meeting new people and forging friendships along the way. The band sold copies of One Thousand Ways To Be at each destination and has received positive feedback in response to the release from crowds around the country.

“Se Bon Ki Ra has completely managed to capture their live sound in the studio. This recording has the depth and substance that so many other bands have missed when trying to capture such an organic sound in such a clinical environment” - Music SA 2009

The lyrics of debut EP title track One thousand ways to be invite the listener to think about choices and the myriad of opportunities that open and close in an instant. Sometimes this luxury of choice can be overwhelming. We tend to lack the strong guidance for being that is often present in more ancient cultures, and so we turn inward for direction and meaning. Regarding the fight to stay afloat on this sea of seemingly endless possibilities, SE BON KI RA suggests “Just suck it in, set your demons free. This is the pain of one thousand ways to be.”

“It’s rare to find a band – let alone a local independent band – with the same sense of spirituality.” - Rip It Up

RADIO ONE SHEET

SE BON KI RA [seh-bon-kih-ruh] is an old Haitian proverb that means “good is rare”, traditionally used as a reminder of the precious nature of our experiences and interactions and as a warning against complacency.

“It doesn’t take much of a look to find the good in SE BON KI RA.” - Rip It Up Magazine

Bringing something fresh and honest to the Australian music scene with their proud ‘old school meets new school’ version of groove-thrash, the interpretation of the metal genre that SE BON KI RA demonstrates offers a tasty morsel for a wide range of consumers of the hard and the heavy.

“Chances are you’ve heard of and perhaps also seen SE BON KI RA by now, something of an Adelaide metal supergroup…” – dB Magazine

Since their first gig in November 2007, the band has been energetically entertaining crowds in any Adelaide venue that will have them. SE BON KI RA shows are fun, proving that heavy metal doesn’t have to be a purely serious affair full of negative stereotypes. The intensity of the musical style chosen by SE BON KI RA has not pigeon-holed them into a clichéd choice of imagery and lyrical content. Their use of anger is controlled and deliberate, and their love of life and fun times is infectiously evident. A depth of maturity is added to the band’s song writing efforts by the members’ previous involvement in many and varied musical projects. Over the years members of SE BON KI RA have been in other influential bands including Truth Corroded, Sector III, Obdurate Seduction, Chakkra and Hammad. Growing up listening to a wide range of metal and exercising this in various projects has landed the boys in a good position to carve a fresh sound and style with plenty of influences to call on for inspiration.

“SE BON KI RA play an easily accessible style of heavy metal, simply described with a comparison with US band Lamb of God. Hard guitars and tough guy vocals laid over an infectious groove and downbeat” – Faster Louder

The band recently launched their debut EP “One Thousand Ways To Be” to 350 people at a killer show in Adelaide. With support from heavyweight mates Double Dragon, SE BON KI RA made a strong entry into the metal marketplace with their first recorded product. The band achieved national air play of the EP title track on the Triple J metal show, The Racket when host Andrew Haugs lifted it from the Unearthed website as the track of the week.

“a packed out Uni-Bar witnessed SE BON KI RA display a flawless set of raw groove laden thrash…” - Metal Obsession

Some of the bands’ best performances have been alongside Aussie thrash and metal legends such as Mortal Sin, Alchemist, Dreadnaught, Blood Duster, Psycroptic, Double Dragon and Truth Corroded. Inclusion on the line up for one of Australia’s premier metal festivals Against The Grain was a recent highlight, gaining good support from punters. 2009 has been a big year for SE BON KI RA also picking up their first gig with an international band, playing main local support to USA industrial metal stalwarts Static X at the Adelaide show of their Australian tour.

“SE BON KI RA already has a well established fan base in their home town, clearly visible from the large (S) logo on the shirts of a dozen or so attendees” - Faster Louder of ATG5

The debut EP title track One thousand ways to be is a song that lyrically invites the listener to think about the choices with which we are faced every day and the myriad of opportunities that open and close in an instant. Sometimes this luxury of choice can be overwhelming and without the strong guidance for being that can come from ancient cultures we turn inward for direction and meaning. SE BON KI RA proposes that the path to personal enlightenment is paved with beautiful flaws and perfect accidents. On the battle to stay afloat on this sea of possibilities, SE BON KI RA’s formidable yet friendly front man Chad passionately suggests “Just suck it in, set your demons free. This is the pain of one thousand ways to be.”

How long you been playing for?:

Our first show was with Double Dragon and Black Like Vengeance (Vic) for the BLV album launch at Enigma in November 2007, so we’ve been playing gigs together for almost 3 and a half years. Fuck! That long?!?! We just recently played our 50th show… we’re a sentimental bunch of bogans. Metal guitarists Mike and Shane have been writing and playing music together for a good 15 years. Got no idea how they still put up with each other! Drummer Sven and vocalist Chad have been writing music together for a fuck of a long time too. They simply don’t put up with each other!

Favourite Show:

Big Fucking Day Out 2010! What a fucking show that was! Biggest stage ever, which meant we could run all over the joint. Had a dude in a wheelchair in front of us being hoisted up on top of the mosh pit, PA Speakers up to the ceiling! It was brutastic! (http://www.facebook.com/SEBONKIRA?v=app_2392950137#!/video/video.php?v=191921047880) Followed closely by our Static X support. Best we’ve ever sounded at Fowlers! Awesome crowd.

Loz’s party at the Squatters was pretty awesome too! Jammed out, got drunk, nuff said.
Fringe and Clipsal Race Opening Night in 2008 when we played at the Cranker is something we’ll remember too. A crazy drunken mosh, rolling on top of vomit and broken glass, by a pub full of a combination of metal heads and dudes that rarely see music that heavy. Can’t forget that crazy shit!

Against The Grain and the Feej BDay Bash last year were all awesome too!
Being on the road with Dreadnaught (more Victorians) and playing in Sydney, Melbs, and Tassie was a massive blast too!

Influences:

You really can’t go past the Big 6 ;P
Pantera, Sepultura, Machine Head, Lamb of God, early Metallica and Megadeth. Old school metal played fucking loud. But if you dig deeper, you’ll also find some Satriani and Vai, Al Di Meola, John Butler, and yes, even some AC/DC. And if there’s any Michael Jackson being played… watch that dance floor!

Plans for 2011:

Recording a full length album to follow up from our debut EP – One Thousand Ways To Be.

Sell, sell, sell!! It’s gonna be a big summer of touring when we’re done!
Can’t fucking wait!

What gear do you use:

Sven uses a Yamaha kit with Paiste and Sabian cymbals, Iron Cobra kickers and any bandana he can get his hands on.

Shane is fuelled by Stella Artois and uses an Engl pre amp with a Marshal 9200 power amp and TC Elec G Major 2 effects unit. Jackson, Schecter and Samick guitars.
Mike is dressed by the Salvation Army and uses an Engl Invader 150, BOSS GT8 pedal, BC Rich and LTD guitars.

Benny uses a Mark Bass 3 head with Ibanez basses and shines up his bald noggin with Mr Sheen.

Chad uses a mix of phlegm and sweat and tries to remember to bring his Shure SM58 occasionally.

Why should people give a fuck?:

They should give a fuck because it’s from the heart. So much of life is contrived, consumeristic, meaningless drivel etc. We love what we do and what we write, and we hope others do to.

If not, then we’ll acknowledge that we have weird arse musical tastes and live with the fact that we are a minority of the minority, but otherwise, we love sharing our music with those that also enjoy it, because it’s our passion, and to share it is a fucking awesome experience and people seem to enjoy our shows.

At the end of the day, we love what we do, and if you do too, that’s cool. If not, that’s cool too. Weirdos!

It’s metal. It’s heavy. It’s fun. Enjoy it or not. It’s your call. We’ll keep writing regardless. m/

March 26, 2012
SE BON KI RA, Sydonia & Dreadnaught show!

February 26, 2012
Taking what SE BON KI RA knows to the GRINDSTONE!

May 16, 2011
Segression & SE BON KI RA – Show Review

Cheers

May 2, 2011
FasterLouder.com interview

Fasterlouder.com speaks candidly to SE BON KI RA metal guitarist Mike Brown just before they made their debut at the Adelaide Big Day Out in 2010. Mike Brown goes in to detail about the experience both past and present.

When asked by Fasterlouder.com “What’s the best part of being a band playing the SA leg of the Big Day Out?” Mike response with;

April 6, 2011
SE BON KI RA BIOGRAPHY & RADIO ONE SHEET

March 2, 2011
THEFEEJ.COM Interview: the angry fijian heavy metal coffee?

THEFEEJ.COM
A quick coffee with SE BON KI RA

Yo mama’s whizzer, otherwise known as Adelaide.
Most of us live in the south. Our front man Chad used to, but he’s a northerner now along with Benny our bass player. Southern Metal with Northern Low Tones \m/

We’ll keep writing regardless. m/
